Development - Sketches for Digipak

This was one of the other skecthes that I produced, after looking at all the elements in the piece I decided that it didn't fit with the video and decided to go back to the drawing board. This was on of the first rough sketches that I produced just to get the idea down on paper and to map out how and where thing were going to go.

Development - Background ideas

Using Photoshop I produced an idea for the background of the cover. Using different brushes and colours I created a piece which looks almost outer space like and creates a 3D effect, which is made from the positioning of the different shapes.

Development - Sketches for Digipak Cover

After looking at the photos taken of the band and friends i found this one which I found different and interesting, something that I could work with and turn into a line drawing for the print work. I used fine liner pens to add tones and highlights to the face and hair. I then added a background made up of crinkled lines keeping to certain colours which were blue, red and grey to make the man and text stand out more. I layered the piece so that the text(bands name) would be in the foreground as the text is the most important part of the piece.

Development - Sketches for Digipak Cover/Magazine Advert

We began to draw up some initial ideas for a Digipak cover, insert and Magazine advert image to see which one would work best with the forms and conventions of our chosen bands genre and style. We chose not to use a photograph of the band members because they were going to be displayed in the music video itself, so too much of them may bore the audiece or cloud their judgement on the creativity of the band, escpecially since the ideology of the term "indie rock" means a music genre with an understanding of the principles of art. We decided to use the obvious choice of a sketch of a wolf, or wolves, to represent the name of the band. Image association helps people to remember the name of a band when searching them, making the band more likely to be promoted. This image was an initial idea for a simple logo; something with the ability to modify and manipulate text around i.e. the name of the band. However, we all agreed that this image didn’t represent the band properly and a more clearer image of a wolf should be drawn to create a more attractive image for the audience to be drawn to. This image was created to depict a clearer image of a wolf. I trued to make position the wolf into something unique and something that makes the product seem more humorous. But the image was determined too complicated to be placed with text and not original enough to stand out.

These images were drawn to see if a stylesized/cartoon like wolf could possibly be suitable yet, after deliberation, we agreed that although this may appeal to a wider audience, it could also make the band seem more childish and less serious than they actually are about their music.

I created this image to try and portray the band through their name. There are four members of the band, so I drew four wolves. Each wolf is different (although more difficult to see in a black and white image), reflecting the uniqueness of each member, yet when all put together they create a harmony; a whole. We agreed that this image could possible be successful, but only for other merchandise possibilities, not for the actual digipak colver or magazine advertisement.

Although these images are similar to that of the cartoon like images, these have their own qualit. The positions that both wolves are in allows them to be imported with a lot of final products e.g. the Digipak insert with information. I created these images to specifically be manoevered underneath or beside more important information/images, making them more useful to us.

The last two wolves I drew were designed to fit what we wanted as a group. The realism of each wolf creates a dynamic impact on audiences and makes it clear what the image is trying to represent. I chose to do both wolves completely different so it was possible for us to use either one (or both) depending on what we wanted.

insperational videographers

Videographers that I find to be inspirational and have inspired the style of video I want to shoot are; Joost Vandebrug who is originally a photographer however incorporates this into his shooting with lighting and composition as well as camera movements. This adidas video is very edgy and urban which is how we intend to create our music video. Similarly another videographer I found is French Fred once again originating from photography incorporating his knowledge of compostion and depth of field to his skating videos.

Production design

Set design- We had a number of different locations where we filmed the band and picked up any extra shots we needed to make the video combining all of the different gigs and locations we made a fast moving video diary packed with funny, random and entertaining clips mixed in with the performances clips. • Camden – night and day shots • Glasgow- street performances, bars, gigs, coach journey with the band. • Bar 1 gig number 1: South Harrow • Bar 2 gig number 2: Watford- The Flag • Practise/house session
Props-
Some of the props we used were instruments, speaker and any other professional equipment, lighter, drinks, cigarettes, friends and other people at the gigs (drunk men, dancing crowds, dancing girls) alongside many other shots.
Special fx- We decided to used the desaturation tool to create a contrast between the different locations and gigs.
Lighting- The gigs that they played had very interesting lighting one was much more glamorous and flashy compared to the other which was just barely lit up with yellowy lights.
Use of colour –
We have a lot of bright and bold colourful shots from Camden and Glasgow
